A Chair for Anna.
Boston (US), May 2013Design and woodwork: Solène Thierry
Metal work: Myles Purrington, Sara Allen

During my time living in Boston, I took a class in furniture making.
It started with learning to cut wood logs and which part to use for the different elements of a traditional wooden chair.
We built a simple chair as a group and I went on to designing my very own piece of furniture.
I used that opportunity to make a chair for my friend Anna. Tailored specially for her, I researched the shape and form, dissecting the everyday object to keep just the necessary elements to provide minimum support for maximal comfort. I decided to pair wooden elements with metal, as a mean of holding the pieces together while highlighting the pieces in contact with the body.
